As part of District 36’s Wellness initiatives, we are planning
several trips during the next year. Our first trip will be a one
day outing for a winery tour in the Niagara Region.
When: September 9, 2009.
Where: Pillitteri Estates and another
winery to be confirmed later
Cost: $159 all inclusive
of taxes and restaurant gratuities
Who: Only 55 RTO
members and friends
Contact: Lynda Sorrie at Marlin Travel
in Heritage Plaza, Phone - 748-6200
Agenda:
8:30 A.M. – leave Peterborough on professional coach service
making our way to Pillitteri Estates winery for a full tour of the
underground barrel cellar, its vineyards and tasting white and red
wines, and some of the rarest and best Icewines in the world.
1:00 P.M. – Depart for Casa Mia Restaurant for a prepared
buffet which will include hot and cold appetizers, main dishes include
handmade pastas with a choice of homemade sausage and meatballs,
seasonal vegetables and prepared potatoes. The homemade specialty
of Tirimisu follows with tea and coffee.
2:30 P.M. – Second visit to another original family winery
for a tour which will again include multiple wines to try. There
will be a discussion of the history of the Niagara wine region and
of Icewine, the farming techniques, and explanations of how grapes
grow here.
Later, the group will have leisure time to explore the shops and
spend some time enjoying Niagara on the Lake.
The Niagara region will be at its best in early September and luckily
we are retired and able to enjoy it on the second day of the new
school year. However, there are limited seats available for this
trip and I know many people will be wanting to go. Please phone
Lynda Sorrie soon and make arrangements to join us on this wonderful
outing.
Other trips which we will offer this fall will
include a 3 day trip to the Finger Lakes for Theatre, Wine and Cruising
and a wonderful pre- Christmas 3 day trip to Frankenmuth to the
exciting year round Christmas shopping area. Dust off those passports
or dig out the passport applications because both these trips include
outlet shopping and duty free stores. I am told fishers will love
the Finger Lake tour because there is a famous Bass Pro Shop on
the agenda. There will be more about these trips in the next newsletter.
